Three days ago, my neighbor rushed over, alerting me about an injured cat nearby. Without hesitation, I went and retrieved her. Both front paws were fractured, and there were bite marks, with bleeding apparent. She seemed like a well-cared-for cat, possibly belonging to someone in the neighborhood. We’re unsure if she fell from a building or was attacked, but we suspect internal bleeding.
 
Rushing to my friend’s vet clinic, Layla, as we’ve come to call her, received immediate treatment. Her recovery demands ongoing medical attention. Scouring the neighborhood yielded no owner. While my friend, the vet, who generously waived many fees, we still require financial assistance for medications and surgery.
 
Financially strained, I’m reaching out, pleading for aid; otherwise, this innocent soul’s fate hangs in the balance. Additionally, to those needlessly criticizing on Facebook, shame on you. I’ve lost faith in your humanity. Everyone knows their own struggles and hardships. How can you make such heartless remarks toward a creature on death’s door? “Just toss her aside, get yourself a new cat,” or “Stop begging.” What kind of comments are these? She’s just a cat; these creatures cannot self-heal, they need help. Not a single cent will line our pockets.
 
For the first time in my life, I felt utterly powerless. I hope no one experiences such hopelessness and despair. Faced with a cat covered in blood, all I could do was sob uncontrollably. It was one of the most harrowing experiences of my life.
 
I know there are good people out there. I know there are those who will show mercy to this divine creature. If I still hold onto hope for Layla, it’s because of those people.
